Wow, it’s 87˚ as
I write this
report;
yesterday’s 83˚
bright sun and
good fishing
reports despite
the non-typical
weather.
Walleyes still
taking a variety
of baits on weed
edges and mostly
on the reef
structures.
Leeches,
crawlers and
minnows
all working on
slip- sinker
rigs at depths
from 20-30’.
Water temps
approaching a
June-like 75˚,
obviously cool
for this time of
year which might
explain the
strong bite.
Walleye bite
still favors
evening, but
surprisingly a
day bite exists
for all species.
Big pike finally
woke up--several
40” plus being
reported, most
released and
some to be
mounted.
Stick baits
tossed near the
deep weed edges
doing well.
Anglers should
pay attention to
another unusual
twist on
Kabetogama--we
have had reports
and photos of
several
sturgeon being
caught on the
west end of
Kabetogama,
which is a bit
surprising,
especially to
the angler.
There is no
sturgeon season
on Kabetogama
and sturgeon
caught should be
released
immediately.
Smallies have
let up a little
as they start to
favor deeper
water, moving
from the
shallows. Deep
reef edges would
be
a good place to
try for these
fighters.
We urge anglers
to concentrate
their angling
efforts in water
less than 30-35’
in order to save
our resource.
Survival
rates for fish
caught and
released in warm
deep waters
proves to be
fatal to the
fish 25-40
percent of the
time.
Enjoy natures
pleasures,

National Park
